Subtraction, felt, dimensions variable, 2020.

“Subtraction” is a series of felt pieces depicting tattoos removed from prisoners at the Buchenwald camp. Erich Wagner, the chief doctor, would skin tattooed prisoners as part of his doctorate dissertation.

The felting process resembles the tattoo making process, as the needle inserts the coloured fibres into the felted surface.
